"Insights" Book Discussion Group

This ongoing seminar gives you the opportunity to read and discuss up to four thought-provoking books every year.  Our telephone discussion meetings provide you with a relaxed conversational setting in which you can share your own response to the book being discussed, and hear what other participants are taking from their reading.  By pooling together each of our unique contributions, we are able as a group to probe deeper into the themes that make up the essence of each of the books we study.

These discussions take place over a telephone bridge line on the third Monday of the following months -- February, March, May, June, August, September, November, and December.  Calls begin at 8:30pm and conclude at 10:00pm Eastern time.

We follow a quarterly format, with a new book assigned for each 3-month calendar season.  The first month is for reading the book, so there is no meeting that month.  We then meet during the second month to share our initial responses to the book, and take away some reflection exercises to deepen our understanding in the weeks following. Then we meet once more in the third month to conclude our discussion of the themes that have emerged, as a result of both our individual reflections and our shared conversations over the full three months.

Participants may choose to join the sessions on a season-by-season basis for particular books, or may commit to the full year schedule for all four selected books.

"So Little Time" Seminar

This seminar takes a fresh approach to some of the classic time-management strategies of prioritizing and scheduling.  We look at how such techniques, useful as they are in the short-term, consistently fail to support us in meeting our longer-term objectives.  Using a combination of oral presentation, written exercises, and small-group discussions, we explore possibilities for shifting our stance toward our tasks and projects, so that no matter how busy we are, we can begin to leave behind our feelings of overwhelm and upset, and in their place begin to adopt a consistent sense of meaningful engagement and purposeful activity.

Offered as a two-session class, each session 90 minutes in length.  There is an at-home assignment to be completed by participants during the one-week interlude between sessions.

Co-led with my colleague Ella Scheinwald, www.lifefacilitation.com
